Sounds
of a Summer Night
Written by May Garelick
As a young boy waits to fall asleep in those moments between daylight and darkness, he is lulled by the sounds of a warm summer night. Birds cheep. Leaves rustle in the breeze. And when night comes, he is surrounded by more sounds. Bullfrogs drum. Crickets sing. Katydids call. So many things to hear and dream about. May Garelick, a Russian emigre and children's book editor, wrote this and many other popular titles back in the sixties ("Look at the Moon" and "Where does the Butterfly Go When it Rains?") She was a city dweller but her love of nature was poetically reflected in many of her books. SOUNDS is a re-release by Mondo with new illustrations by Candace Whitman. |
